He opened another document.
I read the first two lines.
Suddenly, my legs went weak.
Everything went dark.
I lost my balance and collapsed onto the floor.
As the nurse rushed toward me, I kept repeating one thing:
“Oh my God… Did my father know all along?”
A few minutes later, I was sitting in a chair in the hospital.
The doctor handed me a glass of water.
“Sarah, try to calm down. Your mother is safe right now.”
But I couldn’t forget what I had read on the screen.
The document said:
“Missed medical appointments. Contact with the patient established through a family representative. Immediate follow-up examination recommended.”
And underneath was my father’s phone number.
“So my father knew Mom needed medical attention, but he wouldn’t let her go?”
The doctor replied:
“According to these records, your father called several times to reschedule the appointments. But we’ll need to hear his explanation before we can understand why.”
