I grabbed the edge of his desk.
“Is she in danger?”
“She’s stable at the moment. But it’s a good thing you brought her in. If this situation had continued, the consequences could have been serious.”
Tears filled my eyes.
Then the doctor opened my mother’s electronic medical record.
His expression suddenly changed.
“Wait a minute… That’s strange.”
“What is?”
He leaned closer to the screen.
“Your mother has already been scheduled for several medical examinations over the past three months.”
I was confused.
“That’s impossible. My father wouldn’t let her see a doctor.”
The doctor looked at me.
“But the person listed as accompanying her to those appointments is named Robert.”
My heart seemed to stop.
“That’s my father.”
The doctor was silent for a moment.
Then he said:
“In that case, we need to speak with him, too. But before that, there’s something you need to know.”
