My mother began to cry.
“Robert, I only asked you for one thing. I wanted to see a doctor. I wanted to understand what was happening to me.”
My father embraced her.
“I know. And I was wrong.”
That day, the doctor explained my mother’s treatment plan. Under medical supervision, she stopped taking my father’s medication and began treatment for the conditions the tests had revealed.
Over the following weeks, my mother returned for regular checkups.
Her condition gradually improved.
The dizzy spells became less frequent. She started taking walks in the park again and even returned to her favorite hobby: growing flowers.
And my father changed.
He no longer makes decisions about my mother’s health without her agreement.
Whenever she says she wants to see a doctor, he simply picks up the car keys and asks:
“Would you like me to drive you, or would you rather go with Sarah?”
