“My Son With Down Syndrome Worked at a Store for 12 Years Until the Manager Accused Him of Stealing. My Son Cried and Begged, ‘Mom, Believe Me, I Didn’t Steal Anything!’ I Believed He Was Innocent, but When the Truth Came Out, Something Happened That I Never Could Have Expected…”

Elizabeth took my son’s hand.

“For three whole months, this young man bought groceries for me with his own salary. He paid for everything at the checkout, kept the bags in the storage room, and delivered them to my home after work.”

The manager turned to the cashier in confusion.

“Is that true?”

The young woman nodded.

“Yes. Daniel often made separate purchases. I just didn’t know who they were for.”

At that moment, I remembered something that made my heart ache.

Two months earlier, Daniel had wanted new shoes. His old ones were worn out, but suddenly he told me he didn’t need new ones anymore.

I thought he had simply changed his mind.

But he had been spending his money on someone else.

“But what about the $500?” the manager interrupted. “What happened to the money?”

Elizabeth took a small envelope out of her handbag.

“Here it is. Every dollar is here.”
