My nine-year-old daughter was about to step off her school bus when the silver-haired driver suddenly stood up and called out, “Please stay back! I need to keep her safe!”

Then he lifted his arm as though attempting to attract her attention.

Frank positioned himself between the man and my daughter.

“You’re not taking her!”

My own voice came through the recording.

“Excuse me?”

The stranger paused.

I moved closer toward the bus.

“That’s my daughter!”

Frank immediately reached toward the door controls.

The folding doors shut.

I pressed my palm against the glass.

“OPEN THE DOOR!”

Then something remarkable happened.

For the first time, my attention wasn’t on my own reactions.

Instead, I focused entirely on Frank.

His gaze repeatedly shifted toward the stranger.

His expression remained tense.

The moment the doors closed, he reached for his radio.

Then he drove the bus away.

The camera recorded me running alongside the moving vehicle.

I was calling out.

Both my arms were raised.

Ellie was crying near the front window.

I watched the brown-jacketed man pause beside the sidewalk.
