Our son’s wife.
I took a photo.
Then a video.
I didn’t scream.
I didn’t cry.
Something inside me went completely silent.
My father’s voice echoed in my head: “That man will disappoint you one day, Carol.”
I called Daniel from the parking lot.
“Mom?” he answered, cheerfully.
“Everything okay?”
“Daniel,” I said, my voice steady.
“Come to your grandfather’s grave.
Right now.
I’ll meet you there.
I’ll show you something, and I’ll tell you everything.
And then we’re going to do something.”
“Mom, you’re scaring me.”
“Just come, sweetheart.”
I hung up, started the engine, and drove to my father’s grave.
Part 2 ⬇️
Daniel was already there when I arrived.
Standing by my father’s headstone, arms crossed, face pale.
I didn’t say a word.
I just handed him my phone.
He watched the video in silence.
Twelve seconds.
His father.
His wife.
The hotel lobby.
The arm around the waist.
