“Dad, you had no right to make those decisions for Mom. Her health decisions belong to her.”
He nodded.
“You’re right.”
Just then, the doctor approached us.
“Robert, I’d like you to hear the complete explanation of your wife’s test results.”
He led us into his office.
My heart started pounding again.
“Your wife may be experiencing adverse effects from medication that wasn’t prescribed to her,” the doctor explained. “But we’ve also discovered something very important.”
I clasped my hands tightly.
“What is it?”
“Linda’s memory complaints don’t necessarily mean she has dementia. Her tests show a significant vitamin B12 deficiency and anemia, which can contribute to fatigue, dizziness, and certain memory problems.”
I looked at my father.
He sat completely still.
“So… she’s not losing her memory?” he whispered.
“We need to perform additional tests to rule out other causes. But the results we have now point to a treatable problem. We’re hopeful that with appropriate treatment, her condition will improve.”
