I Spent 34 Years Raising My Son with Developmental Disabilities All Alone. One Day, Completely Exhausted, I Screamed, “I’M TIRED OF YOU! GET OUT OF MY SIGHT!” He Ran Away Crying… The Police Have Been Searching for Him for SEVEN DAYS. But This Morning, a Stranger Called and Said, “WE HAVE SOMETHING VERY IMPORTANT TO TELL YOU…”

And with the help of a counselor and social worker, I’m learning something important too.

I’m learning that I don’t have to carry every burden alone.

That asking for help doesn’t mean I’ve failed as a mother.

And that even the people who love each other most can sometimes hurt each other with words they never truly meant.

We’re both learning how to live differently now.

But there’s one painting hanging on our living room wall that I will never sell.

It’s that same colorful painting.

Underneath it, I wrote these words:

“The day I thought I’d lost my son forever, I discovered just how much love he had been carrying in his heart.”

And every evening, when Daniel comes to kiss me goodnight and whispers, “Goodnight, Mom,” I always answer:

“Goodnight, my sweet boy. You will always have a home where you are loved.”
