I Came Home 34 Weeks Pregnant to Find My Husband Had Given Away My Entire Maternity Wardrobe

“Oh, I believe I do.”

He looked at me. “What did you tell her, Anna?”

Elaine lifted one hand. “Do not blame your wife for this.”

Nick stopped.

Elaine opened the first bag. Inside were some of my clothes, folded and piled together. The next bag held more. She had not brought everything back, and my green dress was not there.

Then she took a phone from her coat pocket and set it on the table.

“Would you like to explain this to your wife,” she asked, “or should I?”

Nick stared at the phone. “What is that?”

“The conversation Tara showed me,” Elaine said. “The one where you told her Anna had agreed.”

My face turned toward Nick. “You told her I said yes?”

He rubbed his forehead. “I thought you’d said she could have the clothes.”

“I told you after the baby.”

“You said she could use them.”
