Chapter 1: The night before my wedding, I overheard my bridesmaids through the hotel wall: h6368

I stared at him.

The dress photograph.

The threats.

The fabricated email.

Everything pointed back to the hotel, the place where the plan had begun.

I looked at Ethan.

“I need to go there.”

“Then I’m coming with you.”

Margaret arranged for another coordinator to supervise the reception. Chloe stayed with my grandmother, and Ryan drove us back to the Lakeview Hotel.

The manager met us in the lobby.

“Vanessa is in the administrative office,” he said. “She told staff she had left something important in the original bridal suite. We did not give her access.”

“Has she said anything else?”

“She asked whether anyone had reviewed the security footage.”

Ethan and I exchanged a look.

The manager led us into a small office where the hotel’s security supervisor had prepared a timeline of room access.

The records showed Vanessa entering my original suite the previous afternoon. A second entry had occurred shortly before midnight, but the keycard belonged to an employee.
