I remembered Emily vaguely. She had been friendly during our first planning meeting, but she had left the company months earlier after a disagreement with the owner. I had never been involved in that decision.
“Did Vanessa say Emily was the one who created the screenshots?”
“She said Emily knew how to make things look real. She also said Emily had access to old files from the wedding account.”
I felt a new wave of anger, but this time it was accompanied by something more useful: a path toward the truth.
I asked Margaret to join us.
When I explained what Kendra had said, Margaret’s expression tightened.
“Emily resigned after we discovered she had copied several client files to a personal drive,” she said. “We reported the incident internally and revoked her access. I had no idea she was still in contact with Vanessa.”
“Could she have kept copies?”
“Possibly. But we have records of what she accessed.”
