I took a deep breath.
“Emily, I have never cheated on your father. Not once. I don’t understand what’s happening either, but we need to wait for the doctor’s opinion.”
My daughter remained silent for a moment.
Then she said quietly:
“I believe you, Mom.”
After hearing those words, I cried harder than I had after anything Robert had said.
By Saturday, my husband had almost completely stopped speaking to me. He ate separately, slept in another room, and behaved as though I were a stranger.
Several times, I tried to convince him to wait for the confirmatory test results.
“The preliminary result doesn’t prove anything yet,” I kept telling him. “Please, don’t destroy our marriage before we know the truth.”
Robert, however, refused to listen.
Instead, he left the business card of a divorce lawyer on the kitchen counter.
That was when something inside me changed.
