A Rude Customer Screamed at a Young Employee With Down Syndrome, but She Soon Regretted Asking for the Manager

A young woman was sitting in front of them. Twenty-something. Purple hair. Headphones around her neck. A name tag that said JADE — LOSS PREVENTION.

“Jade,” Terrence said. “Aisle seven. Pull up the last ten minutes.”

“The juice thing?” Jade said. “I’ve been watching. Gloria radioed. That lady’s going nuts.”

“Pull it up,” Terrence said. “Start from fifteen minutes ago. Camera on the north end of the aisle.”

Jade typed. Clicked.

The big monitor in the middle switched to a black-and-white view of the juice aisle. From above. At an angle.

The timestamp in the corner said 2:41:17 PM.

We watched.

Henry came into the frame. Pushing the stock cart. Loaded with cases of juice. Two shelves high. The top shelf stacked with Ocean Spray. The big glass bottles.

He parked it by the shelf. He set the brake.

He got a little step ladder. Two steps. He climbed up. He started putting bottles on the top shelf. One at a time. Carefully. Turning each label so it faced out.
