A man kept manspreading into my plane seat for hours—when he returned from the restroom, he shouted, “What the hell did you do?!”

That is what I sat back and waited means. I was waiting for an audience.

What I did not say.

One sentence.

Is there one for her as well?

Five words, to a cabin manager who was being as helpful as it is possible for a person to be, who had already stood in that aisle and backed me.

She would have looked. There may not have been another seat; it was a full flight and 4C was the last spare pair in that cabin, and Kemi has since told me so in a letter.

But she would have looked, and that girl would have known that somebody had asked.

And I did not say it, and I knew I was not saying it, and I have had fourteen months to find a version in which I did not know.

I was out of that seat in about ninety seconds with my shoes in my hand.
