“Everything okay?”
“Just trying to get comfortable.”
His eyes moved toward Josh’s legs.
He noticed.
I almost wished he hadn’t.
I had spent years working as a school secretary.
I knew how to calm angry parents.
Handle rude phone calls.
Diffuse disagreements.
I could get two furious people to lower their voices without raising mine once.
Yet somehow, I couldn’t convince one grown man to keep his body inside the seat he had purchased.
During drink service, I ordered ginger ale.
Then I tried lowering my tray table.
Josh’s elbow blocked it.
“Excuse me.”
Nothing.
“Josh?”
He removed one headphone.
“I need to put my drink down.”
He shifted approximately half an inch.
“Could you give me a little more room?”
He sighed loudly.
“Seriously?”
“I’d like to use my tray table.”
“You women love making everything a problem.”
I stared at him.
The flight attendant was standing there holding my drink.
