His eyes shifted away.
Then he lowered his voice.
“Just promise you won’t file anything.”
I met his eyes.
“I won’t promise that.”
He stared at me.
“Unbelievable.”
Then he walked away.
I reopened my book.
That was when I realized he had never once asked whether my hip felt better.
He had only asked me to protect his reputation.
After we landed, I walked through the terminal with my phone in my hand.
Marianne and Rose were somewhere beyond security.
All I wanted was to find them.
Then I remembered Josh saying:
I don’t need a complaint attached to my name.
I stopped.
Turned around.
And walked toward customer service.
“Excuse me.”
The employee looked up.
“I’d like to report something that happened on my flight.”
She listened.
Then showed me how to submit a written complaint.
“I’m not asking for compensation,” I explained.
