“Help! Somebody help him!”
A woman in a green coat hurried over. She knelt nearby, checked whether I could hear her, and asked another passerby to call emergency services.
“Tell them a man has collapsed in the park,” she said. “Give them our location and follow the operator’s instructions.”
Within moments, other people began to gather. Someone guided the girls toward a nearby bench while the woman stayed beside me and continued speaking calmly.
“Help is coming, sir. Just stay with us.”
I wanted to tell her my name. I wanted to explain that I was Ethan Caldwell, the founder of a successful business empire. I had spent decades building a company, negotiating major deals, and making decisions that affected thousands of people.
My name had opened doors in boardrooms across the country. My signature had moved millions of dollars. A single phone call could bring executives, lawyers, and advisers rushing to meet me.
