Two Little Girls Stopped to Help a Stranger in the Park—and Changed the Way a Billionaire Saw the World

“I’m glad you’re doing better,” she replied. “The girls were frightened by what happened.”

“I can imagine.”

“Lily has been telling everyone she helped a man who looked like he needed his mother.”

Despite my lingering discomfort, I laughed.

“That sounds like Lily.”

Denise chuckled, then grew serious.

“I told them they did the right thing by getting an adult and calling for help. But I also want them to understand that they aren’t responsible for every emergency they encounter.”

Her words stayed with me.

“They should know how to get help safely,” she continued, “but they’re children. They shouldn’t feel they have to solve an adult’s problems.”

“I agree completely,” I said. “I want to thank them, not make them feel responsible for what happened to me.”

We spoke briefly about my recovery. I told her that the doctors had warned me against rushing back to work.
