Chapter 8: The Light of the Truth
A full year has passed since that humid, explosive spring night in the auditorium.
The seasons have changed, and so have we. Our small apartment on Oak Street is louder, more chaotic, and tighter on space than ever before. There are baby toys scattered across the worn carpet, and the smell of formula is permanently etched into the walls.
But it is a home filled with an abundance of light.
Ethan didn’t just talk that day; he walked the walk. He is working full-time at the landscaping company, having recently been promoted to a managerial role, and he is taking accounting classes at the community college at night. His eyes still carry the heavy bags of a new parent, but the paralyzing fear is gone, replaced by a quiet, unshakable confidence.
Chloe blossomed away from the toxic, suffocating shade of the Harrington family tree. She applied for, and won, several need-based scholarships. She is currently studying nursing, inspired by the NICU nurses who saved Lily’s life.
