Andrzej narrowed his eyes.
“Good. Because we don’t want misunderstandings. Dad was very particular about his affairs, and everything must be handled properly.”
Mirosław stirred his coffee.
“Besides, if there were anything important, the notary would have told us.”
I looked at him.
“Would he?”
The question seemed to surprise them both.
Andrzej straightened.
“What is that supposed to mean?”
“Nothing,” I replied.
But I was no longer the frightened young daughter-in-law who had sat silently while a notary announced that she had been left nothing.
For the first time, I knew there was a story my husband’s brothers had not heard.
And I intended to discover the whole truth before anyone could bury it again.
The Notary’s Reaction
