“So she died?”
“Yes.”
“Then why did you say she died three years ago?”
Rosalyn looked at me strangely.
“Because she did.”
Something wasn’t right.
I opened the folder again.
The death certificate.
The date.
Three years ago.
Then I noticed the name.
Elena Hart.
Not my mother.
Elena.
My sister.
I looked at Rosalyn.
“You said Elena died eighteen years ago.”
“She did.”
“Then why does this say she died three years ago?”
Rosalyn didn’t answer.
I turned the page.
There was another document.
DNA analysis.
The subject identified as Elena Hart.
The results showed:
99.98% biological match to my father.
But the signature belonged to Trevor.
I stared at it.
Trevor.
My husband.
The room went cold.
“Why did my husband test Elena’s DNA?”
Rosalyn’s face crumpled.
“He didn’t.”
“What?”
“Your husband didn’t conduct the test.”
“Then whose signature is that?”
