My nine-year-old daughter was about to step off her school bus when the silver-haired driver suddenly stood up and called out, “Please stay back! I need to keep her safe!”

And when that stranger returned, Frank made the decision that prevented him from approaching her.

I opened another email addressed to the transportation department. I entered Frank’s name into the subject field.

Then my fingers stopped moving.

Sending an email wouldn’t be sufficient.

I needed to formally correct my earlier complaint.

But I also wanted to face that man personally.

Because during the most frightening afternoon of my life, I’d repeatedly demanded that Frank Lawson lose his position.

And I couldn’t stop imagining what might have happened if he’d simply followed my demands.
Chapter 7 — The Apology He Deserved

The following morning, I telephoned Mrs. Shaw.

“I’d like to withdraw my complaint.”

She remained silent briefly.

“We can attach a corrected statement to the record.”

“That’s what I want. And I need it to clearly explain that I was mistaken.”

“Of course.”

“Would it be possible to speak with Frank?”
