My husband wanted a divorce. He told me, “I want the house, the cars, everything, except our son.” My attorney urged me to fight for my rights, but I simply replied, “Let him have it all.” Everyone believed I had gone completely crazy.

One afternoon, Tommy and I were standing in the bright kitchen right under the ceiling glass where Mark had once made his cold demands. We were planting small herb seeds in colorful pots to line the window sill.

“Mom, I spilled dirt all over the marble counter,” Tommy said, looking up at me with wide eyes.

“That is totally fine, sweetie,” I smiled, grabbing a wet towel to wipe it away. “We can clean it up in two seconds.”

He laughed happily and went right back to patting down the soil in his pot. For the very first time in years, the house felt like a genuine home rather than a cold display piece.

I never spent years plotting a secret divorce strategy, nor did I construct a complex trap to destroy my husband. I simply kept accurate financial records, preserved my personal independence, and paid close attention to the details Mark always dismissed.
