“She’s here with you.”
I squeezed her hand.
“Yes.”
In a way, she was.
At eleven thirty, Nathan texted.
Can’t wait to make you mine.
I stared at the message.
Then typed:

At noon, Elise called.
“The projector is ready.”
“Audio?”
“Ready.”
“Second video?”
“Loaded.”
“Marriage license?”
“With me.”
“Do not let Nathan touch it.”
“You’ve told me four times.”
“I know.”
“There’s one more thing.”
“What?”
“A man named Martin Hall is here.”
My skin chilled.
Nathan’s disgraced accountant.
“He’s on the guest list?”
“No.”
“Where is he?”
“Lobby.”
“Why?”
“He says Nathan invited him this morning.”
Of course.
Maybe Nathan intended to have me sign documents at the reception.
“Keep him outside the bridal suite.”
“I will.”
At twelve forty-five, we left for the venue.
The ceremony was scheduled for two.
The venue was a restored estate overlooking a lake.
