My Ex Husband Trashed My House Until My Father Stepped In

After we repainted the walls, he suggested replacing it with something modern.

So when the divorce proceedings began, I assumed he’d let me keep it without argument.

Instead, he claimed it belonged to the house.

His attorney even suggested it was a permanent fixture.

“A fixture?” I’d asked during mediation. “It’s hanging on a nail.”

Brian insisted that because it had been there for years, it should remain with the property.

When that argument failed, he claimed my family had given us the mirror as a wedding gift.

Which was impossible.

My grandmother had died before our wedding.

And my father had given the mirror to me before I’d even met Brian.

I showed the documents.

I explained the history.

I even offered Brian half its estimated market value.

The mirror had been appraised at approximately $400.

“I’ll give you $200 today,” I told him. “Just let me keep it.”
