It was a screenshot Lauren had accidentally captured. A group text Mark had once added her to by mistake, back in September, and quickly removed her from. She’d never even noticed it.
It was between Mark and Vanessa.
Mark: Closing is Oct 1. She’ll be at Rachel’s for the long weekend on the 10th. Laur says she always goes for Rachel’s birthday.
Vanessa: And you’re sure about the lease thing?
Mark: Trust me. Once we’re in with a lease and mail at the address, she’d have to go through a full eviction. That’s months. By then she’ll want to settle. She always wants to settle.
Vanessa: Settle how?
Mark: She buys us out to leave. Or she sells and we split it. Half that house should’ve been mine anyway. That down payment came out of the divorce money.
I read that last line three times.
