The next two weeks moved in a rhythm I had not expected: quiet mornings, then sudden sharp moments that rearranged everything.
Hale worked methodically.
I came to his office every other day.
We built the case the way Eleanor had designed it — layer by layer, document by document, her voice threading through all of it like she was still in the room.
The video recording was the center of everything.
Hale played it for me on a Tuesday afternoon.
Eleanor sat in the chair by the window — her chair, the east-facing one — wearing the blue cardigan I had seen her in dozens of times.
She looked directly at the camera.
Her voice was steady.
“My name is Eleanor Ruth Marsh,” she began.
