Five days before my wedding, my brother left me with a serious shoulder injury. When I reached for help, Dad grabbed my phone. “Don’t call the police! Your brother has a future!” I stayed silent, but I remembered everything.

He didn’t ask about my shoulder.

He didn’t ask whether I needed help preparing for the ceremony.

Instead, he walked into my living room looking furious.

“Evan says you’ve been interfering with his business.”

I raised my eyebrows.

“How would I do that?”

Dad hesitated.

He knew very little about my company.

And apparently, Evan knew even less.

“Whatever you’re doing, stop,” Dad demanded.

I sat calmly.

“Dad, business payments get reviewed all the time.”

“Your brother is under enough pressure.”

I looked at him.

“And I’m not?”

He waved away the question.

“Tomorrow is your wedding. The family should be celebrating together.”

I almost laughed.

For years, family had meant giving Evan whatever he needed.

Now Dad was using the same word to demand that I ignore what had happened.

Instead of arguing, I asked one question.

“Will Evan still be attending the ceremony?”
