Chapter 1: The night before my wedding, I overheard my bridesmaids through the hotel wall: h6368

Then I washed my face and got back to work.

Margaret answered on the second ring.

When I told her I needed to change the bridal preparations, security arrangements, and ring custody, she didn’t ask me whether I was being dramatic.

She asked, “Are you safe?”

“Yes.”

“Has someone threatened you?”

“Not physically.”

“Then tell me what you need. We’ll handle the rest.”

By 3:00 a.m., we had agreed on a new schedule. My dress would be transferred to the second suite, where Chloe and Margaret would guard it. The rings would be removed from Vanessa’s custody and delivered directly to Ryan. The hotel manager would arrange separate access for the bridal party, and no one would be allowed into the new suite without my permission.

The wedding itself would still take place at the estate.

I wasn’t going to let Vanessa take that away from me.

At 3:14 a.m., Ryan called.
