My daughter-in-law called my swimsuit photo “disgusting” and forbade me to see my grandchildren — so I invited her to dinner and let the kids teach her a lesson she’s never forgotten

Before I could respond, the comment disappeared.

Brittany had probably wanted to send it privately to one of her friends.

But I had already taken a screenshot.

When we got home, I called her.

“Good morning, Brittany. How are you?

She laughed coldly.

“So now, you’re acting like everything is normal?”

“I saw your comment.

There was a silence.

Then his embarrassment turned to anger.

“You should never have published this photo.

“Why?”

“Because it was out of place.”

“I wore a swimsuit to the beach.

“You are almost seventy years old.

His words hit me harder than I could have imagined.

“And what does my age have to do with that?”

Design and visual arts

“My children saw this photo,” she said. I don’t want them to think it’s okay to show off online.

“I did not exhibit myself.

“You have humiliated our whole family.

I closed my eyes.

“Brittany, are you saying that I can’t see Caleb and Lily anymore because of a picture?”

“That’s exactly what I’m saying. Until you learn how to behave properly, stay away from them.

Then she hung up.

For several seconds, I sat with the phone pressed to my ear.

George had heard it all.

Time and calendars

“Call Daniel,” he said. Our son must know.

“No.

“She can’t take us away from our grandchildren.

“I know.

“Then what are you going to do?”

I printed out the screenshot and folded it neatly.

Then I put on lipstick.

“I will invite them to dinner.”

Brittany opened the front door, but didn’t invite me in.

“What are you doing here?”

“I’d like you, Daniel, and the kids to come and dine with us on Sunday.”

“No.

“I will wait for Daniel.”

She went out and closed the door behind her.
