The pattern matters.
Swelling that is new, persistent, worsening, or accompanied by shortness of breath or rapid weight gain deserves medical attention.
Sudden Weight Gain Can Be Important
People often associate weight gain only with eating more.
But a rapid increase over a short period can sometimes represent fluid retention rather than an increase in body fat.
For someone with heart failure, sudden fluid accumulation can cause body weight to rise noticeably over a short period.
If a person has known heart failure, their healthcare professional may recommend monitoring their weight regularly and reporting sudden changes.
This is very different from gradual weight gain over several months.

Everyone gets tired.
A busy day, poor sleep, stress, physical activity, or illness can leave someone exhausted.
The type of fatigue that deserves attention is fatigue that is unusual for you, persistent, or disproportionate to what you have been doing.
Someone may notice:
Everyday activities suddenly feel exhausting
Walking requires more effort
Climbing stairs becomes unusually difficult
Household chores leave
them extremely tired
They need more rest than usual
They feel weak without an obvious explanation
The heart supplies oxygen-rich blood to the body’s tissues.
If circulation is impaired, the body may not receive the oxygen and nutrients it needs as efficiently.
This can contribute to fatigue.
But fatigue is an extremely nonspecific symptom.
It can also occur with anemia, infections, thyroid problems, sleep disorders, depression, medication side effects, nutritional deficiencies, and many other conditions.
Therefore, fatigue should be considered in context rather than interpreted as proof of heart disease.

Most people occasionally notice their heartbeat.
You may feel your heart beat faster after exercise, during stress, after drinking caffeine, or during an emotional experience.
