Valentina stepped forward and touched Sofia’s face.
“I always felt like someone was missing,” she whispered.
Sofia threw her arms around her.
I did not forgive my parents that day.
Some wounds are too deep for one apology, and some crimes cannot be erased by tears.
The truth eventually came out. The clinic records, hidden documents, and my mother’s confession proved everything. My father faced legal consequences, while my mother agreed to testify against everyone involved.
Sofia chose to leave the house with us.
As we walked through the rusted gate, my mother called my name.
“I am sorry,” she sobbed. “I was afraid of losing my husband.”
I turned back and looked at her.
“And because of that fear, you lost both of your daughters.”
Then I took Valentina’s hand in one hand and Sofia’s in the other.
I had returned to show my parents what they had lost.
Instead, I found the daughter they had stolen from me—and finally brought her home.
