POLL: DO YOU SUPPORT HAKEEM JEFFERIES ASKING FOR RESIGNATION OF PETE HEGSETH OVER IRAN WAR?
RECENTLY REPUBLICANS OWN THOMAS MASSIE HAS ALSO CALLED FOR IMPEACHMENT OF DEFENCE SECRETARY PETE HEGSETH.
House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries has intensified his criticism of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth as the United States remains involved in the war with Iran.
Jeffries has repeatedly argued that the Trump administration entered the conflict without clear objectives, an effective exit strategy or proper congressional authorization.
On August 31, Jeffries said Hegseth “should be fired” and argued that he should never have been confirmed as secretary of defense in the first place.
Jeffries has also accused President Donald Trump and Hegseth of taking the United States into what he calls a “reckless and costly war of choice.”
Democratic leaders have pushed War Powers resolutions aimed at limiting or ending U.S. military operations in Iran, arguing that Congress has constitutional authority over decisions involving prolonged military conflict.
The dispute is not entirely divided along party lines.
On September 24, four Republican senators joined most Democrats in supporting a measure that would have restricted Trump’s Iran war powers. The resolution failed narrowly, 50–49.
Supporters of Hegseth and the administration argue that the military campaign is necessary to defend U.S. interests and that the president has significant authority as commander in chief.
Critics argue that Hegseth should be held accountable for the war’s strategy, costs and consequences.
The controversy has also become part of the larger debate over congressional oversight of the Trump administration.
So what do YOU think?
Should Pete Hegseth be removed as secretary of defense because of his role in the Iran war?
Or do you believe Jeffries and other critics are wrong to demand his removal?
Vote and explain your reasoning respectfully in the comments.
